Ontario’s Website Accessibility Requirements for Canadian Businesses

The Ontario government is committed to ensuring that all its citizens can access the necessary services and information, which means they’ve been working hard on updating legislation ever since 2005. The newest law in this series came into effect last year with AODA – it’s an Act called for by our own province’s name: Accessibility for Ontarians With Disabilities Act (AODA).

The Ontario disability act applies to private and non-profit organizations with 50 or more employees. It encourages businesses in the province of Ontario, regardless if they’re big or small, whether by size alone – best efforts must still go into accessibility for all these entities!

The AODA fines are staggered in Ontario. Based on the severity of the issue, the maximum daily fines for applicable corporations are up to $100,000 per day.
